If you are interested in a fast-paced position and learning new skills, please apply! The CT1 Alarms Technician collaborates with other members of the Crafts & Trades team to ensure the smooth functioning of the Facilities Services Division of Maintenance, which provides general services.
Working under the supervision of the Plumbing, Alarms and Insulation Shop Service Manager, the technician performs maintenance work at the apprentice level, including minor repairs on different alarm systems within the University of Alaska Fairbanks facilities.
The technician may also assist fully qualified Alarm technicians in carrying out more complex tasks.
Additionally, the technician should possess experience in conducting inspections, testing, and maintenance on alarm systems and must acquire certification or license within one year of hire.
To excel in this role, you must possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and gather equipment data through various methods to anticipate equipment needs and take effective action.
You should be able to work cooperatively with others while being able to work independently.
You must be able to communicate effectively through written and oral means, and follow instructions accordingly.
Basic knowledge of computer operations is a must, along with the ability to learn specific computer software/hardware applications, such as maintenance work order systems.
Safety standards and procedures must be followed while working in a safe manner.
Moreover, you should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, and work successfully as a part of a team.
Analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
The position requires an apprentice level or other equivalent certification that is appropriate to the specific trade, with a minimum of three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
To be considered for the CT2 position, the applicant must hold NICET and State of Alaska Fire System Permit, and should have at least five years of experience in inspecting, testing, and maintaining alarm systems, along with experience in troubleshooting alarm systems.
Minimum Qualifications: Apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the electrical or electronics trades; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in alarms, electronics, CCTV, and/or Access control.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
CT2 - Education and/or Experience: Journeyman level or equivalent certification in a specialized field including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing or electrical; or a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
*REQUIRED* Must be able to pass a federal background check (CJIS).
